Is The Bible The Word of God (Part 10)
Pastor Al V. Hughes

IT’S LOGICAL

Let’s sum everything up. We will use a simple syllogism to confirm the divine authorship of the Bible. A syllogism is a deductive method of logical reasoning consisting of a major and a minor premise and a conclusion. Such as:

•Every virtue is laudable (major premise)
•Kindness is a virtue (minor premise)
•Therefore, kindness is laudable (conclusion)

In a valid argument, the conclusion must be true if the premises are true.

     Our syllogism looks like this:

•Only God can write a perfect/infallible book (major premise)
•The Bible is a perfect/infallible book (minor premise)
•Therefore, the Bible is the Word of God (conclusion)

What the Bible believer must do is demonstrate that the premises are true. If we can do that, the conclusion must also be true.
The major premise is self-evident (“Only God can write a perfect book”). As we have shown in articles two, three and four, if a perfect book exists, only God could have written it! Hardly anyone would argue this point.
The minor premise (“The Bible is a perfect book”) is where most objections will occur. If you can reasonably demonstrate that there are no errors in the Bible, then the conclusion must follow—The Bible is the Word of God.
Do we have evidence supporting the premise that the Bible is without error and a perfect Book? The evidence is substantial. Some of this evidence can be found this series of articles. More evidence is readily available verifying the premise that the Bible is infallible. Any honest investigation of the prophetic, historic, and scientific accuracy of the Bible will prove it’s infallibility. (See also Defending Your Faith by Dan Story, Kregel Publications or The New Evidence That Demands A Verdict by Josh McDowell, Nelson Publications).
If any unbeliever wishes to overthrow the conclusion that the Bible is the Word of God, all they need to do is confirm ONE ERROR in the Bible. No one has done it yet, and no one will.
