Passage: Luke 1:26-38

1.  Although Mary sought to understand “how” in verse 34, her statement in verse 38 “Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.” shows us her faith.  Contrast her story here with Sarah’s response (Genesis 18:12).  What motivated these completely different responses?

2.  It is very easy to condemn the Innkeeper for turning them away, but isn’t there a better response to this man’s callousness? If so, what might it be?

3.  Christ set aside all the glories of Heaven to be born in a stable, and He did that because He loves us and wants us to be glorified with Him.  What have you set aside in this world for His sake? (See Luke 14:26-27)

4.  Application:  In allowing the Holy Spirit to come upon her, Mary accomplished God’s will for her life.  What do you think God could accomplish through you if you yielded as Mary did?  What is holding you back from doing so?
