Icebreaker:  If money were no problem, and you could choose one place in the world to visit, where would you go and why?

**Summarize this week’s sermon using the Pastor’s notes**

Passage: 1 Samuel 30:1-6

1.  Even being a man after God’s own heart won’t stop troubles and tragedies from coming into our lives.  Why is that?

2.  Why do you think the Amalekites took the women and children rather than simply killing them?

3.  In verse 4, we see David and his men mourning and weeping until they could weep no more.  Only afterwards do we see anyone moving to take action to fix the situation.  Is there a lesson in there for us to learn from?

4.  Why do you think David finally decides to inquire of the Lord, when it had been so long since he had done that?  How might things have been different for David if he had sought the Lord’s direction more frequently?

5.  Application:  How do you encourage yourself in the Lord?  How do you encourage others?
